Southern Maine River Kayak Tour

The Maine wilderness is closer than you think! Join us for a paddle on the serene and wonderfully scenic Mousam River in Kennebunk, Maine, launching just a few minutes down the road from Kennebunkport’s busy Dock Square. The Mousam begins in a wide tidal estuary near the beautiful sandy Parson’s Beach and winds inland through open grassland and woods, flanked by Kennebunk’s historic Bridle Path.

Our tour follows the tide, paddling with the current about three miles upriver to Roger’s Pond Park near downtown Kennebunk. After a short break, we head downstream when the tide turns – so we are never paddling against the current!

This experience is perfect for anyone interested in exploring the Kennebunk area’s wilder side. First-time kayakers are welcome! Your Registered Maine Kayak Guide will show you how to paddle properly, discuss points of interest, and help you spot wildlife along the way. Great blue herons, kingfishers, and bald eagles are often seen along this route!*

*Your guide cannot guarantee wildlife sightings.

Please call (207-967-6065) or email (info@coastalmainehikeandbike.com) with questions.

Ages and Abilities

Age

Children 16 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Single-seat kayaks are for participants 12 and older. Anyone under 12 may join an adult parent or guardian on a tandem (two-seat) kayak.

Keep in mind that younger children may not be able to provide much assistance with paddling. If you're planning to paddle with a younger child, be prepared to do most of the work yourself.

Single kayak participants should be able to paddle with the current for 2-3 hours, with breaks. Each tandem kayak requires at least one person of adult strength or two people age 12 and over.

Accessibility

Anyone who can enter and remain seated comfortably in the boat may join. People who are unable to paddle may join stronger paddlers in a tandem kayak. The kayak launch is not wheelchair accessible.
